Tryouts

Tryouts for 2010-2011 season will be November ?? (date TBD) for 12 & under (4th, 5th & 6th graders) and for 13-14's (7th & 8th grades), and then November ?? (date TBD) for high school (9th-12th grades). All tryouts will be held at Court One.

All travel teams (18-1, 17-1, 18-2/17-2, 16-1, 16-2, 15-1, 14-1, 14-2, 13-1, 13-2) for 2010-2011 will be 10-player rosters; Non-traveling teams (additional 16's, 15's, 14's, 12's, 11's, & 10's) for 2010-2011 will be 12-player rosters.

Practice Facilities

Important Information about Tryouts

• Do I need volleyball experience to try out for the club?
  You do not need volleyball experience to try out for the club (especially at the younger ages), but it definitely helps. Athletic ability and height are also a plus.
• What is the tryout procedure?
  The coaches will test each athlete's physical characteristics, height, reach, vertical jump, etc. The athlete will warm-up and the coaches will evaluate the various volleyball skills for each participant: serving, passing, setting, and hitting. Finally, the athletes will be put into scrimmage situations with other girls to demonstrate their game talents. AZ East Valley Juniors believes in the worth of open tryouts. That is, each athlete must earn her spot on the team at that day's tryout. East Valley does not pick the teams beforehand and then provide a mock tryout. Each athlete has a chance to make the best team she can.
• What do I need to bring to tryouts?
  We strongly recommend completing paperwork prior to attending tryouts. COMPLETE on-line tryout registration EVEN if you don't have time to mail it in before tryouts! We still need it.
  1. Please complete the EVJ On-line Tryout Pre-Registration Form (submit electronically and then print & sign & mail to EVJ)
  2. AZ Region and USAV Membership/USAV Code of Conduct Form - the region is instituting a new process here. You must register on-line through the region website and mail this payment directly to the AZ Region regardless of what club you tryout for and/or join. Please go to http://www.azregionvolleyball.org/info/join.html for more information and directions. For EVJ tryouts please just show a copy of your email confirmation showing you registered directly with the AZ Region.
  3. Please print and complete the Medical Release Form. The medical form can also be printed from the AZ Region website when you complete the USAV Membership in step 2 above.

  Mail in to EVJ:

  • Signed #1--EVJ Pre-Reg Form
  • Evidence of #2 done through the region--(USAV Member Reg)
  • Completed #3--2011 Med Release Form
  • $20 pre-registration fee
  If you do not mail in your pre-registration, please walk-up with #1, #2, and #3 to tryouts along with a $30 tryout fee. The Club Participation Agreement and a copy of the player's certified birth certificate to give to the club (only if new AZ Region player this year) will be collected upon commitment to the Club AFTER tryouts. Everyone will be given an Information Sheet (includes Fee Schedule) and a Parent/Player Handbook for review on tryout day. Please wear standard activity clothing such as t-shirt, gym shorts, athletic shoes and socks, and kneepads (if you have them.) Also bring a water bottle for water breaks.
• Is there a non-refundable charge for tryouts?
  Yes. We will have a pre-registration fee of $20 (must be mailed in prior to tryouts) and a day of tryouts registration fee of $30 (still register on-line and complete the paperwork to carry in). Checks should be made payable to AZ East Valley Juniors VBC. This fee can be paid by cash or check and covers facility fees and administrative costs associated with tryouts.
• Are parents/guardians required to attend tryouts?
  Yes. At least one parent must be at the tryouts at the beginning to sign the necessary paperwork and attend a brief meeting and at the end to complete the team selection and leave a deposit. If the athlete is selected to a team, other paper work and payment must be submitted to secure her spot on the team. Club orientation will be held for the parents after registration. Parents need not be present for the entire time.
• If the athlete makes the team, when is the first payment due?
  The first payment is due when she makes the club/team on the tryout date.

After submitting your information you can print it, sign it, then mail it with your $20 non-refundable pre-registration tryout fee along with the other forms shown below. For day-of-tryout registration, please print all forms, complete and sign and bring the completed forms with $30 registration fee to the tryouts.

Acceptance Forms: (Required AFTER your daughter is selected for a team on tryout day)

  (FYI-Don't send in now. This form will be required to be signed and turned in upon acceptance of club participation at the end of tryouts.) The Club Participation Agreement refers to the Parent/Player Handbook and an Information Sheet with a Fee Schedule. These 3 documents and information will be given to everyone when they check in at tryout registration on tryout day.
• Copy of Birth Certificate
  For players who are NEW to club volleyball in the AZ Region, we will need to collect a copy of your birth certificate to give to the AZ Region to keep on file.

* Athletes who were born on or after September 1, 1991 and a high school student during some part of the current academic year may play in the 18u age group.
