EVJ VOLLEYBALL/AZ PRIMITIVE TRYOUT SCHEDULE

Ages 10-14 (4th-8th Grade) -- Initial tryout period November 1st, 2nd & 3rd

• Day One - November 1, 2012 (Thursday)
  • 4:30pm to 5:30pm - Registration
  • 5:30pm to 9:30pm - Tryout Period
  • All players can tryout. Only returning EVJ/AZ Primitive club players can sign. All other players can receive/accept verbal offers.

EVJ VOLLEYBALL/AZ PRIMITIVE 2012-13 TRYOUT PROCESS

• EVJ intends to offer and sign the majority of its players on Day One of tryouts.
• EVJ also intends to make verbal offers on Day One to complete team rosters.
• We encourage players who want to accept their verbal offers to attend EVJ tryouts on Day Two. All Day One tryout players who receive a verbal offer and return on Day Two will be given priority for placment on Day Three.
• In addition, EVJ Coaches may ask committed players (SIGNED & VERBAL) to come back on Day Two.
• As in the past years, due to the number of roster spots being filled, certain team rosters will need to be finalized for optimal placement on Day Two of tryouts.
• We will evaluate new attendees on Day Two who were NOT at the tryout on Day One for any open spots that are available or for a waiting list.
• We will do our best to be fair to each player and communicate what is happening between Day One and Day Two.
• We will do our best to post open positions on our website after tryouts for those still looking for a club team opportunity.
• A one-time tryout fee of $35 is required, this includes a tryout t-shirt and up to three days of attendance at tryouts if necessary (PAID ATTENDEES AT MULTIPLE TRYOUTS MUST WEAR THEIR TRYOUT T-SHIRT TO AVOID ADDITIONAL FEES).

EVJ VOLLEYBALL TRYOUT CHECKLIST

1. Do I need volleyball experience to try out for the club?
   • You do not need volleyball experience to try out for the club (espeically at the younger ages), but it definitely helps. Athletic ability and height are a plus.
     


2. What is the tryout procedure?
   • The athlete will warm-up and the coaches will evaluate the various volleyball skills for each participant: serving, passing, setting, and hitting.
   • Depending on the age group, some physical and coordination drills will also be completed.
   • The athletes will be put into scrimmage-type situations with other girls to demonstrate their game talents.
   • EVJ Volleyball believes in the worth of open tryouts. That is, each athlete must earn her spot on the team at that day's tryout.
   • EVJ Volleyball does not pick the teams beforehand and then provide a mock tryout. Each athlete has a chance to make the best team she can.
   
   
3. What do I need to do to register for tryouts?
   
   
   • We strongly recommend you PRE-REGISTER/REGISTER by completing the following process PRIOR to attending tryouts. COMPLETE on-line tryout registration EVEN if you don't have time to mail it in before tryouts.
   
   
   1. Register for EVJ Volleyball tryout using our on-line registration form by clicking on the link below. When completed, print, sign and mail.

   2. Register with the Arizona Region and USA Volleyball before tryouts by clicking on the links below. You will be required to pay a $25 non-refundable fee directly to the region.

   • Summary - For pre-registration, MAIL in the following to EVJ before tryouts
     
     
     1. Signed EVJ Volleyball Registration Form
     2. Evidence of registration with the AZ Region and USAV (one page confirmation only or your membership card showing you are registered with the AZ Region)
     3. Completed 2013 Medical Release Form
     4. Completed AZ Region Concussion Form
     5. $35 tryout pre-registration fee (payable to East Valley Juniors Volleyball Club, Inc.)

   • If you do not mail in your pre-registration forms, please walk-up with the required forms as noted in #3 above, along with a $45 tryout fee (payable to East Valley Juniors Volleyball Club, Inc.)
     
   
   
   • Please wear standard activity clothing such as a t-shirt, gym shorts, athletic shoes and socks, and kneepads. Also bring a water bottle for water breaks. Each participant will receive an EVJ tryout t-shirt to be worn while in attendance at an EVJ tryout.
     
   
   
4. With the AZ Region’s new tryout policy, how will tryout fees work and are they non-refundable?
   
   
   • Tryout fees are non-refundable. They are collected to cover facility fees and administrative costs associated with tryouts. We will have a pre-registration fee of $35** (must be mailed in prior to tryouts) and a day of tryouts registration fee of $45 (still register on-line and complete the paperwork to carry in to expedite the process). Pay by cash or checks should be made payable to East Valley Juniors Volleyball Club, Inc.
     
     ** This is a one-time tryout fee that will include the tryout t-shirt along with covering you up to three days of tryout attendance, if necessary.
   
   
5. Are parents/guardians required to attend tryouts?
   
   
   • Yes. At least one parent must be at the tryouts at the beginning for registration/check-in purposes and to attend a brief meeting that will be held prior to tryouts starting.
   • We will also need at least one parent there at the end of the tryout to complete the team selection process.
   • Parents need not be present the entire tryout process. Due to the number of tryout participants and gym space available, parents are not permitted to stay in the gym once the tryouts begin. While the tryout is scheduled to end at 9:30pm, additional time may be needed to finalize the commitment process. We will work as efficiently as possible as we understand it is a school night. We want to make sure the lines of communication are open and optimal placements are made. We may ask you to return on Day Two to complete the placement process.
   
   
6. If the athlete makes the team, what are the next steps?
   
   
   • A returning EVJ/AZP player offered a position can sign a commitment (EVJ Club Participation Agreement) on Day One and must pay her NON-REFUNDABLE commitment fee (cash or check) to guarantee her spot.
   • A new player to club volleyball or a new player who did not play at EVJ/AZP the year prior who receives a verbal offer is unable to sign until Day 3 (November 3, 2012). We encourage players who want to accept their verbal offers to attend EVJ tryouts on Day Two. All Day One tryout players who receive a verbal offer and return on Day Two will be given priority for placement on Day Three. EVJ’s SIGNING PERIOD will be from 8am-9am on Saturday, November 3. At such time, you will sign the EVJ Club Participation Agreement and pay the NON-REFUNDABLE commitment fee (cash or check) to guarantee her spot.
   • If a player is new to the AZ Region this year, a copy of the player’s certified birth certificate will also be required. The BC will be submitted to the region by the club.

Please note that you are committing to an entire season. Participation in the club requires commitment to the entire club season and to the entire season's fees. Players are permitted to commit to and to play for one club/team in a given club season per the AZ Region of USA Volleyball. A club season is defined as ending at the end of the USAV Nationals Tournament in early July. The commitment fee will be applied to the total season fees.

Everyone will be given an Information Sheet (includes Fee Schedule) and a Parent/Player Handbook for review on tryout day.
