Tryouts for 2006-2007

Tryouts for AZ East Valley Jrs for the 2006-2007 season will be held at Home Courts-Tempe, the NEW permanent home of AZ East Valley Jrs, located at 7303 S. Kyrene Rd., Tempe, AZ 85283. Home Courts-Tempe is just north of Elliot Rd. and on the east side of Kyrene Rd. Kyrene is located between the I-10 freeway and Rural Rd. in Tempe. Click on Directions for a map to the gym.

12's	Who:	12 and under only (6th grade and younger) For girls born on or after September 1, 1994
	When:	Saturday, October 14, 2006 Registration: 7:30 AM
13-14's	Who:	14 and under only (7th and 8th graders) For girls born on or after September 1, 1992
	When:	Saturday, October 14, 2006 Registration: 2:00 PM
15-16's	Who:	16 and under only (9th and 10th graders) For girls born on or after September 1, 1990
	When:	Sunday, November 12, 2006 Registration: 12:00 PM
17-18's	Who:	18 and under only (11th and 12th graders) For girls born on or after September 1, 1988
	When:	Sunday, November 12, 2006 Registration: 8:00 AM

Important Information about Tryouts

• Do I need volleyball experience to try out for the club?
  You do not need volleyball experience to try out for the club (especially at the younger ages), but it definitely helps. Athletic ability and height are also a plus.
• What is the tryout procedure?
  The coaches will test each athlete's physical characteristics, height, reach, vertical jump, etc. The athlete will warm-up and the coaches will evaluate the various volleyball skills for each participant: serving, passing, setting, and hitting. Finally, the athletes will be put into scrimmage situations with other girls to demonstrate their game talents. AZ East Valley Juniors believes in the worth of open tryouts. That is, each athlete must earn her spot on the team at that day's tryout. East Valley does not pick the teams beforehand and then provide a mock tryout. Each athlete has a chance to make the best team she can.
• What do I need to bring to tryouts?
  We strongly recommend completing paperwork prior to attending tryouts. Tryout forms are available below. Please bring completed forms from the web site (including insurance information, policy number, etc.) and a copy of the player's certified birth certificate to give to the club (only if new AZ Region player this year.) Please wear standard activity clothing such as t-shirt, gym shorts, athletic shoes and socks, and kneepads (if you have them.) Also bring a water bottle for water breaks. The 14's tryout lasts until the evening. We will allow for a meal-type break, so please bring something nutrituous to eat.
• Is there a charge for tryouts?
  Yes. A non-refundable $25 tryout fee paid by cash or check (made payable to Home Courts) covers facility fees and administrative costs associated with tryouts.
• Are parents/guardians required to attend tryouts?
  Yes. At least one parent must be at the tryouts at the beginning to sign the necessary paperwork and at the end to complete the team selection and leave a deposit. If the athlete is selected to a team, other paper work and payment must be submitted to secure her spot on the team. Club orientation will be held for the parents after registration. Parents are encouraged to stay for the tryouts, but they need not be present for the entire time.
• If the athlete makes the team, when is the first payment due?
  The first payment is due when she makes the club/team on the tryout date.

• 2006-2007 Club Participation Agreement
  The Club Participation Agreement refers to the Parent/Player Handbook and an Information Sheet with a Fee Schedule. These documents and information will be given to everyone when they check in at tryout registration.

Because we're operating out of Home Courts, a private membership facility, all of our players will need to become one-year Home Courts of Tempe members. EVJ club volleyball players AND their families are entitled to family memberships at $15/month for a one year period (total for one year is $180). This is a highly discounted rate. This will allow full access to the facility including the training room and use of the courts for open gym when events are not scheduled. A Home Courts of Tempe Membership form will be available the day of tryouts. $30 of the above noted "commitment fee" applies to this one-year membership.
